We had Monday off and decided to go somewhere we hadn’t gone before. We got up really late, because we could, so for once were not out in search of breakfast.

We had a Shoppers thingy that had coupons in it and since I really wanted a burger we settled on The Bend Burger Co. The coupon was for ½ off a regular burger when you ordered another one (and maybe drinks, I don’t remember).

It was a legal holiday in the summer and a beautiful day so downtown was hopping. The Bend Burger Co. is on the corner of the parking lot at Mirror Pond giving it ample parking.

The place is much smaller inside than it looks. There is a lot of yellow so it is bright and cheery. The whole atmosphere is very friendly. They have a big flat screen on one wall with revolving pictures of Central Oregon scenery and people doing fun things, like parades and skiing and well, everything you can possibly do in Central Oregon. It made me want to be more energetic but the large quantity of rum the night before (July 4th) was still sapping me so I just enjoyed watching it and tried not to look out at the bright sunlight.

A very nice woman (who I suspect is one of the owners) greeted us and gave us menus. I certainly felt welcome right away. There is inside and outside seating but hubby likes the inside and most of the people were sitting outside so we stayed in.

The menu…was great. I am kind of traditional when it comes to burgers, but went out on a limb and ordered the Deschutes River Burger. Provolone, pineapple, ham, teriyaki sauce, lettuce, tomato and mayo. I didn’t realize until I got up there to order that there was ham on it. I usually do NOT go for ham or bacon on a burger but I went ahead and did it. It was heaven on a bun. A nice fluffy potato roll bun. Really, this is one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. The fact that I got a healthy portion of salad at no extra charge, instead of fries, was really nice too.

Jerry (hubby) had the Mirror Pond (every time I heard someone order that, which was often, I thought it was a beer) Swiss cheese, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, mayo and Bend Burger Sauce.

He also had one of the shakes, chocolate strawberry. I might have purloined a sip or two and can tell you it was a fine shake but they need bigger straws so you don’t have to suck your brain down into the glass to swipe some shake.

Besides a wide range of Northwest Natural Beef burgers, there are steak sandwiches, chicken sandwiches, BLT, Grilled cheese, soups, salads etc.

With the coupon, 2 burgers, a shake and some ice tea came to $20 and change. It was worth it.

I, have to go back and try some other burgers!
